The Mist Stone

When I woke up, I suddenly felt really cold and burst out of bed, but then the feeling went away super fast.

Then I got ready for school straight away thinking I was going to be late. As I was brushing my hair, I felt kind of cold again. Not as much as when I woke up, but still cold. I decided to go eat breakfast and go to school. I was making sure my homework was in my bag, when I felt like I was freezing. It was only September 5th. Could it be that cold already?

I started walking to school and met my best friend Amy. We always checked our homework together to make sure we got the same answers. When we exchanged them Amy said that mine felt cold. I told her what happened in the morning and she was super confused. She said she believed me and to check if it happens the next day.

The next day when I woke up, I felt like I had a fever. I texted Amy that I still felt cold but sicker. Soon later in the afternoon, I realized that there was a very thin layer of mist or fog when I looked outside. I took off my glasses to see if it was because of them but it wasn’t. I called my mom over but when she came it went away. So many strange things started happening to me after that and I told Amy every single thing that happened.

That was a big mistake.

I started seeing purple at random times, feeling cold and seeing mist. On Saturday, I decided to take a stroll on the trail that I used to always go to in the summer. A few steps into the walk, I started feeling cold again. I decided to keep walking because I wanted to end this madness. As I kept walking the mist became more visible and I got colder and colder.

Suddenly I felt kind of dizzy and I heard a voice. It was kind of soft but I could hear it. The person said, “Mist, be careful. Don’t tell anyone, Mist, you will protect in this world, don’t go in another.” I didn’t understand it but when I woke up I realized I had fainted. I was sitting on the floor and I realized it had been half an hour since I left home. I rushed back home and pushed back my curiosity.

The voice said not to tell anyone so I didn’t tell Amy even though she asked me many times if anything else happened. I reached back home and I decided to start a diary about this. I called it the "Mist Mystery". I wrote down the things I heard and everything that happened to me that was strange so far.

Every Saturday I went to the trail with a jacket and went further each time but it always felt like time was going too fast. So today I decided to go at 6 o'clock so I would have a lot of time. After a long walk, I felt like it was freezing. I've gone on this path many times, even in the winter a couple of times, and it was NEVER this cold. There was so much mist that I couldn’t see anything.

Then a bright purple light showed up.

I started walking towards it when I heard a voice, it was the same voice that I heard when I fainted! I brought my diary and a pencil with me but everything was happening so fast that I couldn’t write anything in detail. All I managed to write in that extreme cold was the thing it said again. This time the voice I heard was the same, but it wasn’t a robot’s voice, it sounded more like a woman’s voice.

“This is the Element stone Mist. It is very powerful. Don't tell anyone that you have this and keep it safe, some people already know about the symptoms and they will come running here if they find out about it. In this book - “ and she stopped because suddenly Amy was there standing right in front of me.

I stood in front of the stone so she wouldn’t see but she already knew. “Move aside Laura,” she said but I didn’t budge. She pushed me aside but I pushed her back. “What do you want with it?” I said, and she replied “I just need it!” in an angry voice. She didn’t sound like the person I knew. She sounded like a greedy, selfish monster.

I picked up the stone and put the book that was beside it in my pocket. The Stone felt cold. It had a small purple flame inside. It felt smooth and it was the size of my palm. Out of nowhere, all I could see was purple, then seconds later I saw Amy on the floor. I got super scared, put the stone safely in my pocket and ran back home. I wrote in my diary every detail of all that happened and just went to sleep. The next morning it was Sunday so I still had time to research about it. After I found no information on the “Mist Stone” I tried so hard to think about the voice so maybe it could come back but it was no use.

Then I remembered the book I read every single page and finally, in the last chapter, there was the Mist Stone. There were other stones as well. Then the voice came back! It said that I had passed the test, then the voice shifted to my mom’s voice telling me to wake up and get ready for school. I told my mom it was Sunday and she told me that I was probably dreaming, but everything felt so real.

Was it a dream or was it real? I looked at my desk just to make sure, and sitting there was my diary, besides it in a small box that was locked with the Stone inside.
