Sadiya Veedu shares a recipe for Chicken Momos - a quick and light snack for parties and gatherings!
Prep time - 15 minutes
Cook time – 10 minutes
Est Cost - $ 10 for 50 momos
Ingredients
Ground chicken - 1 lb ($4)
Minced garlic - 2 tsp
Minced ginger - 2 tsp
Coriander leaves - 1/4 cup (chopped)
Spring onions - 1/4 cup (thinly sliced - $2)
Pepper - 1 tsp
Crushed red pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
Onion - 1 medium (finely chopped)
Oil - 1 tbsp for filling, 2 tbsp for frying
Salt - to taste
Round wonton wrappers - $2
Directions:
1. In a bowl, combine chicken, garlic, ginger, coriander leaves, spring onions, crushed red pepper, onions, oil, and salt.
2. Assembling the momos: place one wonton wrapper on a clean work surface, cover the rest with a damp towel. Spoon one table spoon of momos filling onto the center of the wrapper. Using your finger rub the edges of the wrapper with water. Fold the wrapper over the filling into a semi-circle shape, press the edges to seal. After the edges are sealed, make the pleats * (like saree pleats, refer to the picture for the end product)
3. Cooking the momos:
Method 1 – Heat 2 tablespoon of vegetable/canola oil in a large pan on medium heat. Add few momos in a single layer to the pan and cook till the bottom is lightly golden brown (about 2 minutes). Make sure NOT to overcrowd the pan. Add ¼ cup of water, just enough to cover the bottom of the pan and cover the pan quickly. Cook the momos till the water is evaporated and the bottom of the momos is crispy and golden brown (about 3-4 minutes).
Method 2: Steam the momos in a single layer for 8 – 10 minutes
